Bite Into Freedom
Eating Disorder Recovery Centre
Two Disciplines.
One Recovery Plan.
Eating disorders sit at the intersection of nutrition and psychology. Treating only one half rarely creates lasting recovery. At Bite Into Freedom, both clinicians work together on your case, in real time.
Pillar One
Dietitian Care
Our accredited dietitians address the physical and behavioural side of recovery: stabilising eating patterns, challenging food rules, and rebuilding trust with food.
Nutritional rehabilitation and meal support
Breaking the binge purge cycle through consistent eating
Sensory and texture work for ARFID
Weight neutral, non diet approach
Pillar Two
Psychology Care
Our AHPRA registered psychologists address the emotional and cognitive drivers: anxiety, body image, shame, trauma, and the patterns of thinking that maintain the eating disorder.
CBT-E, ACT, and DBT informed therapy
Body image, shame, and self worth work
Anxiety, OCD, and trauma underlying restriction
Neurodiversity affirming, ADHD and autism informed
Both clinicians coordinate on your care, with shared notes and weekly case discussion.

Your Recovery
Journey
Recovery isn't linear, and it doesn't look the same for everyone. But there's a clinically proven path that most people move through. Here's what working with our centre actually looks like.
Start Your JourneyInitial Consultation
A 60 minute deep dive into your story, history, and what you're struggling with. We assess whether you'd benefit from a dietitian, psychologist, or both, and outline a clear plan.
Stabilisation
The early weeks focus on safety: regular eating, reducing the most distressing behaviours, and grounding the nervous system. We move at a pace your body and mind can tolerate.
Active Recovery Work
The heart of treatment. Challenging food rules, working through fear foods, addressing body image, processing the underlying anxiety, shame, or trauma. Dietitian and psychologist coordinate weekly.
Consolidation
Building flexibility and confidence. Sessions become less frequent as you practise the skills in real life: social eating, travel, stressful events. Relapse prevention work begins here.
Recovery & Beyond
Maintenance and freedom. Optional check ins to keep you supported, with the tools to navigate life's curveballs without slipping backwards. Recovery becomes a stable foundation, not a daily fight.

Frequently Asked
Questions
Everything you need to know about eating disorder treatment, Medicare access, and working with our centre.
Should I see a dietitian, a psychologist, or both for an eating disorder?
Most people in eating disorder recovery benefit from both an accredited dietitian and an AHPRA registered psychologist. A dietitian focuses on nutritional rehabilitation, food rules, and meal patterns. A psychologist addresses underlying anxiety, body image, shame, trauma, and emotion regulation. Our integrated team works together with shared notes and weekly case discussions. We can advise on the right starting point during your initial consultation.
Do I need a GP referral to start eating disorder treatment?
No, you do not need a GP referral to book your initial consultation with our dietitian or psychologist team. If you wish to claim Medicare rebates, your GP can provide a Mental Health Care Plan (10 psychology sessions) or an Eating Disorder Management Plan (20 dietitian + 40 psychology sessions per year). We will guide you through the process.
Do I need a formal diagnosis to access eating disorder treatment?
No. You do not need a formal diagnosis to access our support. If food rules, restriction, bingeing, purging, body image distress, or emotional eating are affecting your life, you deserve clinical support today. We provide comprehensive assessments to help guide your individual recovery journey, with or without a diagnosis.
Am I sick enough to get eating disorder help?
Yes. Eating disorders are mental illnesses, not weight illnesses. Many people with serious eating disorders are at a normal or higher weight. If your relationship with food, exercise, or your body is causing distress or impacting your life, you are sick enough and deserve support. Early intervention dramatically improves recovery outcomes.
What happens in my first session at an eating disorder centre?
Your initial consultation is a 60 minute deep dive into your story, history, and current struggles. Your clinician will gather a clinical picture, discuss your goals, and outline a clear next step. We do this in a completely judgement free space. Together we will determine whether you would benefit from a dietitian, psychologist, or both.
How much do dietitian and psychologist sessions cost?
Below are our standard session fees, plus the gap you would pay after the Medicare rebate.

$220

Rebates as of 1 July 2025 (MBS items 82350, 80110, 80115, 82362, 82363). 45 minute psychology sessions attract a lower rebate than 60 minute sessions due to Medicare duration banding. Private health insurance may further reduce your gap fee.
What will I actually pay after the Medicare rebate?
Your gap fee is the difference between our session fee and the Medicare rebate. Dietitian sessions under an EDP attract a $61.80 rebate, leaving a gap of $158.20 for a 60 minute initial or $128.20 for a 45 minute review. Psychology 60 minute sessions attract a $98.95 rebate under either an MHCP or EDP, leaving a gap of $151.05. Note that 45 minute psychology sessions attract a lower rebate due to Medicare duration banding. Private health insurance may further reduce your out of pocket cost.
How do I get an Eating Disorder Plan (EDP) from my GP?
Book a long appointment with your GP and explain you want to be assessed for an Eating Disorder Management Plan. Your GP will assess against the Medicare eligibility criteria, complete the EDP, and provide a referral. You can start working with our team before this is finalised, and we collaborate directly with your GP throughout the process.
Do you bulk bill or accept private health insurance?
We do not bulk bill, but we provide instant Medicare rebates via HICAPS and Easyclaim, so you only pay the gap fee out of pocket. We also accept private health insurance rebates with most major Australian funds (Bupa, Medibank, HCF, NIB, AHM, and others). Bring your card to your session and we will process the claim for you.
